One spark sets the Skye on fire

Further proof of the wonders of Skye, as if we needed it: yesterday we left behind England's unseasonable bitterly cold and wet patch for our Spring break,  to discover Skye is basking in spring sunshine and a prolonged spell of dry weather: astonishingly there's been no rain in Skye for nearly 2 months, since Valentine's day on 14th February.   Sitting outside on the decking  eating a sandwich lunch this afternoon, enjoying the sun and the silence of the bay it's hard to believe it 's still so cold down south.   Whilst great for us, sadly it's causing havoc in Scotland as fires started during the last weeks of the muirburning season, when the crofters traditionally burn the heather to encourage new growth for grazing, have spread uncontrollably, threatening buildings and woodland.  As fires burn firefighters are struggling to bring them under control.
