Things To Do

Spa Pavillion & Pump Room - The original Spa Pavilion has been magnificently restored after a period of disuse. It now serves as a multi-purpose venue for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, dramatic productions, conferences and exhibitions, as well as weddings and other functions. Visit the pavillion website (http://www.strathpefferpavilion.org/) to find out about potential events during your visit.

Located next to the pavillion is the pump room  - Are you brave enough to sample the "healing waters" that made Strathpeffer such a popular destination for the Victorians.

Pump Room and Tourist Information

Museum of Childhood - The museum is housed in the Old Station and is a superb exhibition about childhood in the Highlands of Scotland and which covers subjects as diverse as toys and play on the one hand, and child labour on the other. Visit the museum website (http://69.6.234.243/) to find out more. It is open from April to October.

The Old Station

Golf - Strathpeffer has its own golf course - a challenging course described as a "Jewel in the Highlands" with spectacular views down over the village as well as to the hills of the north. Visit the website (http://www.strathpeffergolf.co.uk/) to find out more about the course.

Walking - The town is a popular base for walkers and there is plenty in the vicinity to suit all abilities.

Take a walk around the village and visit sites such as the "Eagle Stone" (carved with Pictish insignia). The stone has links to one of the legends of the Highlands, the Brahn Seer (Scotland's answer to Nostradamus). He is said to have predicted that should the stone fall three times then ships would anchor on the spot. The story continues that the stone has fallen twice since being placed here. As its located very close to the 50 metre contour, a third fall could be very bad news for Dingwall, down the hill and on the coast. That is perhaps why the Eagle Stone is now discreetly cemented in position.

The Eagle Stone

From the west end of the village a forest track leads to the hill of Cnoc Mor; a diversion en-route takes in Knock Farril, a Pictish hill fort, worth the trip for the views alone.

Also easily accessible are the Forestry Commision owned forests of Tor Acility and Rogie which offer more challenging walking.

For the "Munro Baggers", the village is within easy reach of a number of mountains (Ben Wyvis, The Fannichs & xxx to name but a few).

Mountain Biking - Access to the cycle trails of Torrachility and Rogie forests can be gained from the west end of the village. The local bike Shop "Square Wheels" - (http://www.squarewheels.biz/ ) located in the centre of the village offers bike hire as well as supplying maps of local routes.

Loch Ness - Boat trips on the loch are available courtesy of "Jacobite Cruises -(http://www.jacobite.co.uk/). Trips leave from from Inverness
