Further information on the property

 About the properties

The properties all have electric heating which is chargeable  from October to May inclusive and there is either a wood burning stove or an open fireplace for which wood can be bought at the correct length from the owners.

All bedrooms have ample storage and hanging space, dressing tables and bedside tables.  Bedlinen and towels are provide and swimming towels can be rented by the week.

There are extras available from your hosts on request:

We have a supply of fans, electric food processors, bread machines, pizza stones, hairdryers, books, videos, games etc available to borrow and are happy to supply you with anything we can that you may urgently need or which might be missing from your holiday home during your stay with us.

Amenities

There are all the amenities already mentioned (croquet, badminton, table tennis, swimming, fishing) as well as streams, other childrens' camps and woodland to explore all within the property as well as animals to meet.

We wish to make this a stress free time for you and this is a magical place to bring your children to if you don't want to see them for the entire holiday, however young children will have to be watched as there is a lot of water on the property, streams, a river, the lake, a canal and several ponds.  We are however well away from the main road.

Wifi

There is wi-fi available on parts of the property but you will have to log into the system.

Accessibility

We are within 15mns of Bergerac airport.   Bordeaux and Toulouse airports are both about 2 hours drive away.

It takes about 7 hours to drive down from St Malo and 10hrs to Cherbourg.

Car hire is available from the airports and from Bergerac.

We are a couple of kms off the N21 south of Bergerac and there is a bus stop one km away but it would be advisable to have independent transport as our property is rural and buses are not very regular .

 Wheelchairs

Although not specifically designed for the wheelchair bound, La Maison des Amis is suitable for someone in a wheelchair.  The downstairs TV room can be converted into a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and with the adjoining living room make a very comfortable unit.  Access to and from this property and to the garden would have to be via the front door.

We are happy to rent out this part of the property on its own but prices would depend on the season.

 Outside

All the properties have private gardens with garden furniture, parasols and BBQs.

There is easy access to a large alarmed pool 12 x 6 metres which is shared between the three gites.  There are sunbeds and tables around the pool.

The pool 12 x 6 metres is mainly for use by the guests but is used very occasionally and discretely by the owners who live on the estate.

Out and About

Bergerac with its medieval old town and port is 20 kms away.  It has a busy shopping centre and two large markets a week, as well as a multi-screen cinema and a lively theatre, cafes, fabulous restaurants and has a very useful little airport which has daily flights to and from the UK.

Issigeac is our local village at 3 kms away and it provides for all ones daily needs.  There is a bank, post office, medical centre with both doctor and dentist, 2 supermakets, some lovely shops, excellent restaurants and the usual butcher, baker and presse.  It is also one of the most beautiful and perfect of the  bastide towns in the area and has a renowned sunday morning market that gets very busy over the summer months.

Castillonnes, 7 kms away, shows at least 2 english films a month, and has a larger (and cheaper!) supermarket.

There are some wonderful restaurants  in the area, one just a km away and all the fresh season produce you could hope to buy at the local markets.

We are 2 hours from the beaches of the Atlantic and the beautiful area around Arcachon.

Within the area one can find  riding, go-karting, golf, tennis, canoeing, aquaparks, swimming lakes, rowing and many other facilities too numerous to mention.  One can visit chateaux, grottos, prehistoric sites, museums, vineyards, go wine tasting, attend night markets and open air concerts and films and performances.

It is well worth driving along the Dordogne river with its dramatic landscapes to visit the historic town of Sarlat, stopping off to visit several extraordinary villages and chateaux perched over the river and many beautiful gardens.

But it is always good to come home.  To sit languidly by the pool, or trail a line in the lake, to float around in the old barque, or just to feed the ducks and chickens.

Visiting teenage children will disappear for hours at a time on their own adventures and the young and young at heart may indulge in a game of poo sticks or perhaps pre- dinner drinks and a vicious game of croquet.

Guests love this place.  It is a very beautiful site and there is enough space for various members of the family to do their own thing.  Here each will find something to enjoy and do so at their own pace.  We are proud of our home and look forward to welcoming you here.
