Llanberis village and surrounding area

The village of Llanberis is a short stroll away (approx 10 mins). In the village are shops, pubs, restuarants and some of the many attractions and outdoor pursuits on offer.

Restuarants such as The Peak Brasserie, The Gwynedd Hotel, Padarn Lake Hotel, Dolbadarn Hotel, Pete's Eats, Spice of Llanberis, Llanberis Chinese Takeaway and others are on the High Street. Further afield on the A4086 is The Gallt-y-Glyn Hotel where Russell & Heidi offer Pizza & a Pint starting from £5.50 on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday evenings. Friday evening is by reservation only. Next on the A4086 is The Lakeview Hotel & Restuarant. On the Caernarfon side of Llanrug is Sopna, the Best Welsh Curry House 2007, where Sid & his staff will look after you and your tastebuds. Please remember to book a reservation to ensure a table awaits you.

Attractions include the Welsh Slate Quarry Mueseum just below Glan-y-Bala as well as Padarn Park and the Llanberis Lake Railway. Electric Mountain visitors centre is a 10 minute walk away as is the Snowdon Mountain Railway. In Caernarfon, The Welsh Highland Railway is a pleasant journey to Rhyd Ddu. This railway will eventually take passengers, on completion of its extension in 2009, to Porthmadog and join the Ffestiniog Railway to Blaenau Ffestinniog.

Rowing boats are available for hire on Padarn Lake. There are outdoor pursuits available as well as treetop walking on ropes.  Both are within a 5 - 10 minute walk form Glan-y-Bala.

Glan-y-Bala reception has a wealth of information about the area and the many footpaths there are to explore. Park Padarn offers just under 1000 acres to roam and explore the forest.

Fishermen are welcome at Glan-y-Bala and the Seiont, Gwyrfai & LLyfni Angling Society offer fishing by permit to the waters of three rivers and six lakes within its fishery. Salmon, sea-trout, wild brown trout and the elusive Artic Char are some of the fish in its waters. Greg Handler is a registered Welsh fishing coach for those who would like to learn the gentle art of fly-fishing.
