DUNVEGAN CASTLE
This a popular tourist attraction and the castle is worth a visit on a rainy day. The gardens are beautiful, especially in spring for the azaleas and rhodies. Boats ply from the jetty to the small islands in the loch to see the seals and heronry.

TALISKER DISTILLERY
You will find the only Skye distillery beside the loch at Carbost . Talisker whisky is world famous and regularly wins awards. The distillery tour is interesting and not expensive and includes the chance to taste the distinctive smoky, peaty pure malt whisky.

KILMUIR FOLK MUSEUM
The Kilmuir Folk Museum can be found at the far north tip of the island. There are several old croft buildings and a wealth of historical information. You can spend hours here as there is such a lot to take in. Another good excursion for a rainy day.

GLENDALE WATER MILL
If you take the beach road, just past the walled garden of Hamera Lodge, at the end of loch Pooltiel there is a track on the left that takes you down to the old water mill. This was used mainly to grind oatmeal and was still in use in the 1920's. It was fully restored in 1973 but has now unfortunately fallen into disrepair.

BORRERAIG CROFT MUSEUM & PIPING CENTRE
If you want to know a bit more about local history and what it was like living and working in the area in days gone by then visit this museum. Situated at the crossroads in Borreraig about two miles from the village of Glendale. Also has a shop with handknits.

COLBOST FOLK MUSEUM
This museum is next to the Three Chimneys Restaurant. It is a good example of a 'Black House'. See how people lived at the end of the 19th century. A fully furnished authentic croft house. Experience what it was like to live with a peat fire, and no chimney!  At the rear of the building is a reconstruction of an illicit whisky still.
